On March 13th, Heart of Kentucky United Way held our annual awards banquet. This year’s theme was “What Kind of World Do You Want?” inspiring each of us to contemplate our communities, decide what matters, and create lasting change.
Many highlights of the awards presentation drew from the amazing talents and efforts of Greg Caudill, 2006 Campaign Chair, Darryl Dotson, emcee, and country music superstar Eddie Montgomery. Greg emphasized everyone’s contributions acknowledging the great impact Mercer County created this year and the positive energy surrounding the merging of Mercer County United Way and Heart of Kentucky United Way to enhance services.
Darryl Dotson kept the audience engaged with skits involving many people who invest in HKUW year round. An American Idol performance proved to be especially entertaining as Debbie Wagner, Mike Neal, Joan Haltom, Evelyn Guerrant Paige, and Faye Hankla sang and danced (at least we think that was dancing!).
Eddie Montgomery truly infused the program with his humor, love of Kentucky, and gracious donation of a custom made hat and autographed guitar to auction. Faye Hankla was the proud
winner of the custom hat and in a very poignant moment, Evelyn Guerrant Paige was the high bidder on the guitar, presenting the instrument to her son, Ben, on stage.
Heart of Kentucky United Way would like to thank everyone who attended this year’s banquet and a special thanks to Rick Galphin, Myrna Miller, Debbie Baker, Pat Richardson, Farmers National Bank, Kirk Schlea, and Centenary United Methodist Church for making this occasion truly a celebration.
